Labor not for the meat which perishes, but for that meat which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give to you: for him has God the Father sealed.
– John 6:27
Thoughts on Today’s Verse…
The Lord wants to tell us that what we most need in life is not money, wealth and other material things, but the provision of life from God. If we still lust after money and other material things, labor for them rather than pay the price to gain eternal life from God, then our lives are empty and miserable without meaning, for it is said in the Bible that “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). Only God’s word is the foundation of our lives, and the life that we should seek to gain. God says, “God Himself is life, and the truth, and His life and truth coexist. Those who are incapable of gaining the truth shall never gain life. Without the guidance, support, and provision of the truth, you shall only gain letters, doctrines, and, moreover, death. God’s life is ever-present, and His truth and life coexist. If you cannot find the source of truth, then you will not gain the nourishment of life; if you cannot gain the provision of life, then you will surely have no truth….” God’s words tell us that God is the source of man’s life. Only when we find God and obtain the truth can we gain the life from God. And after gaining life, we can live a meaningful life based on values. Without God’s provision of life, without the truth, man will grow ever more distant from God, become increasingly corrupt, and walk toward ruination at the end. Therefore, paying the price to gain the truth and life is the right path of human life for believers of God. And living like this is the most meaningful life.
