June 30, 2018 – Matthew 22:20-21

And he said to them, Whose is this image and superscription? They say to him, Caesar’s. Then said he to them, Render therefore to Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and to God the things that are God’s.

– Matthew 22:20-21

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

This verse was said by the Lord Jesus when the Pharisees tempted Him. From this verse we can see that the Lord asked us to obey the ruling authorities in paying taxes, but should listen to God when it comes to believing in God. This principle applies equally to us Christians today. We should abide by the national system, but with regard to believing in God, we should honor God as great no matter when. If the ruling authorities do not allow us to believe in God or follow God, we must never listen to them. The Lord Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). Only God can give us the truth and guide us onto the right path of human life. And only if we practice in accordance with God’s requirements in all things can we gain the truth and life.
