But be not you called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all you are brothers.
– Matthew 23:8
Thoughts on Today’s Verse…
In this verse, Jesus Christ admonished people not to accept the title Rabbi, for nobody could be called Rabbi and was worthy of others’ praise or admiration; only Christ is qualified for that title, and Christ is God Himself with great power and wisdom.
Think back on the past: Whatever the pastors preached in our church, people all exalted them, and sermons about the Lord were seldom heard in the church. In fact, this is not after Jesus’ will. As Christians, we should not exalt any person or make others adore us, for only God can show us the way. We are all brothers and sisters, helping and sustaining one another. No one is higher than anyone else, all of us should obey God.
