And he said to them, You shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not my to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.

– Matthew 20:23

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

In this verse, the Lord Jesus stood in front of mankind with the status of the Son of man to obey the will of the heavenly Father and entrust all to the hand of God the Father without His own preferences or choices. Just as God’s words say, “God Himself has no elements of disobedience; His substance is good. He is the expression of all beauty and goodness, as well as all love. Even in the flesh, God does not do any that disobeys God the Father. Even at the expense of sacrificing His life, He would be whole-heartedly willing and make no other choice. God has no elements of self-rightness and self-importance, or those of conceit and arrogance; He has no elements of crookedness. … Man will choose, but Christ would not. Though He has the identity of God Himself, He still seeks the will of God the Father, and fulfills what is entrusted to Him by God the Father, from the perspective of the flesh. This is something that is unattainable to man.” From God’s words we can see that although the Lord Jesus appears to be an ordinary man, His substance is God, and is the combination of divinity and humanity. So in God incarnate we never see arrogance and conceit, self-rightness and self-importance, or crookedness, much less the resistance and rebellious disposition. He has no choice and still obey the will of the heavenly Father regardless of suffering or sacrificing Himself.
