April22, 2018 – Matthew 7:22-23

Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name? and in your name have cast out devils? and in your name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess to them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity.

– Matthew 7:22-23

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

From the word of the Lord Jesus, we can see that those who have prophesied, cast out devils, and done many wonderful works in the name of the Lord Jesus have worked hard for the Lord. They have had many good deeds, but why does the Lord Jesus call them those who work iniquity? God says, “I decide the destination of each person not on the basis of age, seniority, amount of suffering, and least of all, the degree to which they invite pity, but according to whether they possess the truth. There is no other choice but this. You must realize that all those who do not follow the will of God will be punished. This is an immutable fact.” From God’s word, we know that God decides our destinations not based on how many roads we’ve traveled, how much money we’ve offered, how much work we’ve done or how much we’ve endured for God, but based on whether we have truth and reality. That’s why those Jewish chief priests, scribes, and Pharisees were finally condemned and cursed by the Lord Jesus, though they seemed reverent outwardly, and travelled over land and sea spreading the gospel. We should take this as a warning.
