Truly I say to you, Whoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.
– Mark 10:15

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

God likes the honest who are innocent and pure as a little child. Only such person can enter the kingdom of heaven. Then how should we pursue to be an honest person?

First, you must be an honest person in prayer. The Lord Jesus said, “But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeks such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth” (Jhn 4:23-24). Becoming an honest person starts from prayer. In our prayers, we should speak the words within our hearts, and tell our true state and real difficulties to God, rather than say something nice or against our will to deceive Him.

Second, being an honest person requires entry into the practice of speaking the truth and abandoning lying. The Lord Jesus said, “But let your communication be, Yes, yes; No, no: for whatever is more than these comes of evil” (Mat 5:37). The Lord asks us to seek the truth from facts when speaking, and refrain from impurity in our words. If we don’t say like this, then we are evildoers.

Third, you must not act perfunctorily to deceive God in fulfilling your duty. The Lord Jesus said, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment” (Mat 22:37-38). As a Christian, we should expend ourselves for the Lord with all our hearts, souls and minds to bring more people before God and do as much as we possibly can with hearts and souls and do not deceive God.

Fourth, being an honest person requires truly giving your heart to God. This is the most crucial entry to successfully becoming an honest person. The Lord Jesus said, “This people draws near to me with their mouth, and honors me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me” (Mat 15:8-9). God doesn’t want us to believe and worship Him in words but with our hearts. No matter the situations, we can obey God’s sovereignty and arrangements rather than speak our reasons or conditions, fussing over our own losses and gains.

In summary, we may practice being an honest person from these four aspects.
