June 26, 2019—A Commentary on John 14:23

Jesus answered and said to him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our stayed with him.
– John 14:23

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

This verse tells us that if we want to love God, we should follow the Lord’s way and act in accordance with the will of God in all things. For example, the Lord Jesus asks us to be the light of the world and the salt of the earth, then we should keep the Lord’s teachings. If we find some brothers and sisters are weak or in difficulty, we should help and support them. If they do something against the Lord’s will, we should guide them to handle things with principles. As Christians who truly follow God, we should reject and forsake the negative things which are not compatible with God, and treat the people, matters and things around us according to the principles of the truth. Love those who truly love the truth and carry out God’s will; Stray from and forsake those who hate the truth and resist God. So if we want to achieve genuine love of God, we should consider the church’s interests in all respects and at all times, share God’s restlessness and His wants. Only by practicing all of God’s demands of us can we please the Lord.

Share a passage of God’s words, “When you start believing in God, the truth and God’s words don’t mention these things. What does God’s word require as the principle for treating others? Love what God loves, hate what God hates. That is, the people loved by God who truly pursue the truth and who carry out God’s will, are the people you should love. Those who don’t carry out God’s will, hate God, disobey God, and are despised by God, are people we should despise and reject. That’s what God’s word requires.
