Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace to the hearers.
– Ephesians 4:29

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

This verse shows us a principle by which we speak and act: Do not speak words of filth but say something good for people. The filthy words in this verse not only refers to swearing or ugly words, but contains more meanings, such as: words of harming others to benefit ourselves, cutting and sarcastic remarks, and words of tempting others. If we help others with a loving heart and our deeds can bring benefit to them, then our stature will have grown. Just as God’s words say, “You are capable of … not doing anything that defies God, not restraining anyone else and are able to help others with compassion. You can patiently pass on your experience in fellowship to others so that everybody can obtain provision, obtain the benefit, and can enter onto the right track of believing in God. Furthermore, during this work you do not seek your own status or interests, not take anything for yourself that you did not earn, not speak up for yourself, and no matter how anyone treats you, you treat them all properly. You would then be someone with a relatively good stature.” From God’s words, we know His requirements of us. He wants us to help others with a loving heart and selflessly provide them with our experience and knowledge of God’s words. Do not seek others’ esteem or our own interests. No matter how anyone treats us, we still treat them with a loving and honest heart, then we will have the likeness of a true Christian. Thus, we can be praised by God and bring Him joy.
