October 7 2018—A Commentary on 2 Peter 3:9

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
– 2 Peter 3:9

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

From this verse, we can see God’s work will not be delayed by a minute or a second, and will be accomplished according to His plan. We can also see the earnest intention of God’s salvation. He wants man to be saved, and does not want anyone to suffer perdition. But many people think: Since God does not want anyone to suffer perdition, He will save every person in the world. Only after all people in this world have repented will the Lord meet us. Is this viewpoint after God’s will? If this is the case, then how will God accomplish His work of rewarding good and punishing evil, separating the goats from the sheep and the wise virgins from the foolish virgins and good servants from evil servants? Thus, what they imagine is not God’s will but man’s conceptions and imaginations. We should understand only those wise virgins, sheep, and good servants are people that God intends to save. Such people are those predestined by God.They are those who have human spirits, and are real people. God will not forsake any of them. These people with human spirits are mankind. Those without human spirits are not mankind, not human. They are dead in the eyes of God. Those foolish virgins and wicked servants are dead ones without spirit. God does not save such kind of people.

The Lord Jesus said: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (Jhn 10:27). Obviously, the Lord comes in the last days and speaks to seek His sheep who truly believe in God and love the truth. Those wise virgins are raptured before God and attend the feast with the Lord because of hearing God’s voice. Such people are those predestined by God with human spirits. God doesn’t want these people to suffer perdition. Rather, those dead ones without spirits do not seek God’s voice, and even condemn the second coming of Jesus though they hear someone bearing witness to it. They do not understand God’s voice and refuse to welcome His second coming. They are foolish virgins that will be forsaken and eliminated by God, and fall into the darkness weeping and gnashing their teeth.
