October 5 2018—A Commentary on Isaiah 49:15

Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yes, they may forget, yet will I not forget you.
– Isaiah 49:15

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

From this verse we see God’s meticulous care and love for us mankind. Although we are deeply corrupted by Satan, often live in corruption, misunderstand God, and even complain against God, God has always cared for us and loved us in every possible way, just as a mother cares for her sucking child.

In the beginning, Adam and Eve didn’t obey God’s word and ate the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. When God saw their nakedness, He personally made coats of skins and clothed them. From this we can see: God’s love for man is real. God does not forget and does not pay no heed to mankind because of their rebellion, but cares for man through practical actions. From the beginning until the end, God loves mankind just as parents love their children. He has always had pity on and looked after this mankind and has never stopped saving man because of man’s corruption. In the Age of Law, we mankind did not know how to live. God used Moses to decree laws to tell man what is positive things, what is negative things, how to worship God, how to sacrifice, and even tell man the details to kill the beasts, teaching man how to live on earth. However, during the later stages of the Age of Law, because of mankind was more and more corrupted by Satan, people all lived in sin and could not keep the laws. If this continued, people would face the danger of being convicted and cursed by the laws. God had mercy on this mankind afflicted by Satan, so He was personally incarnated, becoming the likeness of sinful flesh, and was nailed to the cross, becoming a sin offering for mankind. This way, man can repent and confess, be forgiven his sins, avoid the condemnation and curse of the law, have the qualification to come before God and pray to God, and enjoy God’s rich grace and truth. God has done too many things for us mankind. He has been silently expending for mankind with His faithfulness and sincerity. Finally, God will completely save us from Satan’s influence and we will be entirely gained by Him. This is God’s love, real as parents’ love for their children. Just as God says, “God created mankind; regardless of whether they have been corrupted or whether they follow Him, God treats human beings as His loved ones—or as human beings would say, the people dearest to Him—and not His playthings. Although God says He is the Creator and that man is His creation, which may sound like there is a bit of a difference in rank, the reality is that everything God has done for mankind far exceeds a relationship of this nature. God loves mankind, cares for mankind, and shows concern for mankind, as well as constantly and unceasingly provides for mankind. He never feels in His heart that this is additional work or something that deserves a lot of credit. Nor does He feel that saving humanity, supplying them, and granting them everything, is making a huge contribution to mankind. He simply provides for mankind quietly and silently, in His own way and through His own essence and what He has and is. No matter how much provision and how much help mankind receives from Him, God never thinks about nor tries to take credit. This is determined by the essence of God, and is also precisely a true expression of God’s disposition.
