The Differences Between Putting the Truth Into Practice and Adhering to Regulations
Presently, you still have not completely obtained the truth. That is why your adherence to regulations is particularly extreme. This is the problem that most people have. The truth must be applied in accordance to the environment and the circumstances. There are principles to the truth, and the truth is not regulation. Then how can one put into practice obeying God? Which regulations must be adhered to in order to obey God? Someone says that obeying God is adhering to God’s words. However, do you understand God’s words? Are you clear about the truths contained within God’s words? If you do not understand what God’s words mean and the essence of God’s words, how can you adhere to God’s words? You cannot possibly adhere to them. Is it clear just what obeying God is? It means to practice God’s words and to listen to God’s words. If you listen to God’s words, you are obeying. If you do not listen to God’s words, you are not obeying. However, are you able to understand God’s words? You have read God’s words a few times, yet you do not know the meaning of God’s words, the essence of God’s words, God’s intentions within His words and the requests that God has for man within His words. If this is the case, how can you possibly put God’s words into practice? Therefore, only precisely putting God’s words into practice and acting precisely according to the truth in God’s words and God’s demands is obeying God. If you are not clear about the essence of God’s words and the requests that God has for man within God’s words, how can you adhere to God’s words? There is no way you can do so. Therefore, if you do not understand the truth, it is impossible for you to practice obeying God. Those that adhere to regulations are people that do not understand the truth. If you want to break with these regulations, what would you do? You must first understand the truth. Once you have done this and you determine the principles of putting the truth into practice, the regulations will be removed. What are the principles of putting the truth into practice? What are the main results that must be attained through putting the truth into practice? Most importantly, one is able to live out the likeness and standard of a genuine human being to satisfy God. Putting the truth into practice is the living out of the likeness of a genuine human being. Now, is it correct for a genuine human being to obey God? Obedience to God is the likeness of a genuine human being and is what a genuine human being should possess. This is right and proper. If you obey Satan, you are a degenerate. If you betray God and follow Satan, aren’t you a degenerate? If you obey Satan, is it the likeness of a human being? It is a revelation of the devilish nature and not the human likeness. What is the criterion for putting the truth into practice? It is to live out the likeness of a genuine human being. When a truly good person sees this, he will feel it is suitable, it is praiseworthy, it is right and proper, it is something that man should possess and it is the likeness that a human being should have. These are the results that can be attained through putting the truth into practice. Which truth you practice has caused good people to detest you, have a bad reaction to you and believe that it is incorrect for you to do so? Good people and those with a sense of righteousness will always regard your act as acceptable, right and proper when you put the truth into practice, and they will think that this is exactly the way it should be. If you do something that causes bad people to praise you and good people to feel disgusted, is what you’ve done in accordance with the truth? Absolutely not. If bad people praise you, then what you did is certainly evil, for bad people like doing evil. If what you did is praised by good people, then even if what you did is not putting the truth into practice, it is in accordance with the truth, does not contradict the truth, does not conflict with the truth or it involves the truth. Therefore, each and every person that puts the truth into practice has the likeness of a human being. Whenever someone puts the truth into practice, the majority of the people will feel that it is correct and it is good and it is something that they approve of. Say, for example, you did something but you do not know if it is in accordance with the truth. You can look at how the majority of good people feel about it and you can ask them, “Is what I have done something that is good or something that is bad?” Now, how can other people weigh this? They can look at whether what you have done is of benefit to everybody else. They can look at the results what you have done will produce and how it will affect everyone else. From a long-term perspective, if what you have done is beneficial for others, then that is a good thing and it is not a bad thing. If you understand the truth, you can discern whether or not what you did is in accordance with the truth and whether or not what you did is practicing the truth. Tell me, what are the manifestations of the people that do not understand the truth? What are the manifestations of the people that understand the truth? Once you learn how to distinguish this, you will be able to see whether someone has the truth or not. This is very important. People that understand the truth do not adhere to regulations, and they have principles. Those that understand the truth are capable of grasping the essence. That is why they are able to see through to the essence of matters. At the very least, when they do things, they do not adhere to regulations. They see things a person does in accordance with their essence. They do not see them in accordance with the superficial appearance they give. This is a very important point. Additionally, those that understand the truth are able to accurately grasp God’s will. When they do things, they are able to do them in accordance with God’s will. This is rather important. They are able to grasp God’s will, and they do not follow regulations. They do not blindly do this or that according to the letters of God’s words. They are able to grasp God’s will, and they know what God likes and what God hates. They know the essence of what God demands of man, and that God does not restrict man or adhere to regulations. These people clearly understand these matters, so they are able to practice in a precise manner and are able to grasp the root of the matters and what is key. Why would you say that God’s family does not spread the gospel to those who have too poor caliber to understand the truth? The main reason is that they are unable to experience God’s work. What is the meaning of “unable to experience God’s work?” God does the work of salvation, and if they are unable to understand God’s words, how can they experience God’s work? So these people will not be able to receive God’s salvation. For people to believe in God and attain God’s salvation, they must possess one thing at the minimum, which is that they must possess a certain caliber. They must be able to accept God’s words and understand God’s words, they must be able to understand God’s enlightenment and illumination and understand whatever God speaks. They must possess this caliber. This is an essential condition for experiencing God’s work. That is why those whose caliber falls short of the standard will be unable to experience God’s work. That is why we do not spread the gospel to them. God uses words to save man. He speaks words to save man. To attain salvation, one must, at the very least, possess the caliber to understand God’s words. If someone does not possess such caliber, they will be unable to attain God’s salvation. What’s the use of bringing them to God’s family? Isn’t this just a waste of effort? Now, is it a regulation not to spread the gospel to those whose caliber is too poor? This is not a regulation. It will not do if people’s caliber is too poor. That is why the rules of God’s family are not regulations. They are principles that are in accordance with the truth. They are all well founded. They’re not baseless. Some people adhere to the rules from the above as if they were regulations. You ask them, “Why does the above make these rules?” They do not know. Is this kind of person someone that adheres to regulations or someone that puts the truth into practice? They adhere to regulations because they do not understand why the above makes such rules. You must understand the meaning of whatever the above says and why the above asks you to do things in this manner. Once you understand it, you will recognize the significance and necessity of doing things in this manner, and that it is not okay not to do so. At this moment, your practice is not adhering to the regulations. If you do not understand the meaning of a rule and keep adhering to it blindly, the result is that when it comes time to stop adhering to it, you still continue to do so anyways. This person is adhering to regulations. Therefore, when you put God’s words into practice, if you understand the significance behind these words of God, if you understand the exact meaning behind them and why God wants us to practice it in this manner—once you completely understand God’s will in these words—what is your motivation when you practice it then? It is not to adhere to regulations but to practice in accordance with the truth in order to satisfy God. When you do not understand the meaning of God’s words, yet you adhere to them, your motivation is simply to adhere to regulations. It is not to satisfy God. That is why your practice is adhering to regulations and not putting the truth into practice. If you understand completely the significance of God’s words and you go and put them into practice, your mindset will have changed. It will be different from the times when you did not understand. This can be compared to someone giving you a present. The present is very beneficial to you and he is giving love along with the present. However, if you do not understand the intentions of the person giving you this present, when you accept the present, will you be accepting that person’s love? So, afterward when you use this present, you will not appreciate the giver’s kindness. Basically, your use of the present is like adhering to regulations, “He gave me this and I will use it.” Your heart does not feel the other person’s intentions. The mindset of adhering to the regulations and that of putting principles into practice are different. There is a difference here. Just what is adhering to regulations and what is putting the truth into practice? Are you clear on the differences here? God’s words contain God’s love and God’s will. If you do not understand this, when you practice God’s words, are you repaying God’s love? Are you able to care about the will of God? You are not, therefore, you are just adhering to regulations and it will not produce any results. If you understand the meaning of God’s words and understand that God’s words contain His love, when you put the truth into practice, it is to repay God’s love and it is to satisfy God. You see, the result has been achieved. Are the results of adhering to regulations and putting the truth into practice the same? Are the two mindsets the same? They are not the same, there are differences. Are you able to presently discern these differences? Right now, you understand a bit of these things. Gradually, as your experience grows with time, you will learn how to discern. What exactly are the differences between putting the truth into practice and adhering to regulations? Can you summarize some other differences? How can you conduct meetings so as to achieve the resolution of the issues? How can the meetings produce best results? First, you need to find the reasons why the meetings do not have good results. Then, you focus on tackling them. When a good physician sees a patient, he does not blindly give his patient a prescription. He first observes his patient. Why does he observe his patient? He wants to find the source of his patient’s illness and choose the best treatment option for his patient so that he may completely cure his patient’s illness. He wants to get to the root of the problem. That is why he first observes his patient and asks about his illness. Another physician is quite different in his approach. After he examines the patient, he immediately prescribes some medicine for him. Which physician would you say is simply adhering to regulations and going through the formalities? Which physician genuinely wants to heal his patients? The former is in no rush to give his patient a prescription. He keeps observing him and tries to find the source of his symptoms. He explores how the patient acquired this illness and for how long he has had it. He observes him and asks him about it, and when he feels that he is not clear about the source of the illness, he will not give up. Since he is not able to accurately diagnose the source of the illness of the patient, he will not prescribe any medicine to him. This kind of person is prudent and competent. Similarly, the person who can resolve issues in the meetings also practices in this manner. Whichever issues are prominent for his brothers and sisters, whichever issues affect their understanding of the truth and whichever issues need to be resolved first, those are the issues which he considers. He focuses on knowing these things accurately. After he determines which issues need to be resolved, he makes preparations in regard to this aspect of the truth. He spends much time to consider how to communicate the truth so that the issue can be resolved. He thinks about what examples he will talk about and what truths he needs to communicate in order to talk the issue through so that it can be resolved. Since he is adequately prepared, and he communicates what he has prepared a bit by bit during the meeting, finally everybody says, “Oh, you have fellowshiped about this issue very clearly. How come I did not discover these things until now?” Everybody feels that the results of the meeting are particularly good and they feel very free. It’s as if a patient was healed of a serious illness. Would you say that the way this leader handles the work of the church is in accordance with God’s will? If instead, a church leader, each time he hosts the meeting, does not inquire about which issues his brothers and sisters are struggling with, does not have an objective for the truths that need to be communicated that day or the issues that need to be resolved, and he simply takes a passage of God’s words to read with his brothers and sisters and after reading it, simply explains the literal meaning of that passage of God’s words, communicates it, and after that, he ends the meeting, this is called following the prescribed order or going through the formalities. Is doing things in this way in accordance with God’s will? If each time a meeting is hosted in this sort of manner, is this putting the truth into practice or is it just a religious ceremony? Isn’t this just going through formalities? If things are done in this manner, you will not be able to lead people to understand the truth. In regard to helping people understand the truth, what foundation must there be in order to attain results? You must know what are the issues that exist for people. You can only help people resolve their issues if you discover what their issues are. Helping people understand the truth is based on resolving their issues. This way, they can attain real repentance and change. If you are unable to figure out what their issues are, how can you help people understand the truth? What does the truth aim at? The truth aims at people’s corruptions. If you discover the corruptions that people have, their transgressions, and their issues of resisting God, you can lead them to eat and drink God’s words and understand the truth, and in the end, these issues are resolved by the truth. This is a real life experience and the process of obtaining the truth. If other people do not have that issue and you let them eat and drink the truth relevant to that issue, are the results good or bad? This is similar to a physician treating a patient. If the patient does not have a particular illness, yet the physician makes him take medicine for that illness, is this useful? Why would people take the medicine if they do not have the illness? The physician must discover the patient’s illness. He’s really got it and it must be treated, and he is suffering a lot. At this time, he will be willing to take the medicine. He even actively requests for it if the physician does not prescribe medicine to him. So, what are the preconditions that you must meet in order to lead people to enter into the truth? You must discover people’s problems, the corruptions they have revealed, how they are tied down by their sins and how they are restrained by their transgressions. At this time, they require the truth. They thirst for the truth to help them resolve these issues. If you communicate the truth to them and help them resolve their issues, they will obey, they will rely on you, they will accept what you have communicated and the results will be good. If someone does not have a particular issue, yet you insist on communicating that aspect of the truth to them and expose that issue, will they be willing to accept? For example, some people no longer love the world and have cast away the world. If you insist on talking about the consequences of loving the world and tell them how loving the world is not good, will they be willing to listen? They will say, “I do not need this truth. I have not loved the world for a long time.” You see, people seek the truth only if they have a problem. When they have a transgression that they want to resolve, they will seek the truth. In this case, you can communicate that specific aspect of the truth to them. Relying on your imagination to communicate an aspect of the truth is no good. You must choose in accordance with the existing issues that the brothers and sisters of the church are facing. When your brothers and sisters have issues and need a particular aspect of the truth to resolve the issues that they are facing and you communicate that very aspect of the truth to them, the results would be fantastic. What is this called? Targeting the issue. Prescribing the right medicine for the illness. Why do the people who work like this achieve good results? Why do the people who do not communicate the truth and lead others to eat and drink God’s word in accordance with this principle not achieve good results? Do you know why? Presently, in your church, you lead others to eat and drink God’s words in accordance to what? In accordance to what do you communicate the truth? These things must be in accordance with the existing issues and requests that your brothers and sisters have. Different people have different requests at different times, “At this time, I need to understand this aspect of the truth. During that time, I want to understand that aspect of the truth.” Isn’t this the case? If you communicate the truth in accordance with people’s requests, the results will be good. The effect you must achieve is to really be able to resolve people’s issues. Each truth that you communicate must be able to resolve the problems that your brothers and sisters are facing. Only in this manner will your brothers and sisters be able continuously to grow and progress in their pursuing the truth and eating and drinking God’s words. If you are able to discern how different putting the truth into practice is from adhering to regulations, in which aspects they are different and their differences in nature, it will be better. If someone does not understand the truth and believes that adhering to regulations is putting the truth into practice, isn’t this person’s spirit blocked? He believes that adhering to the regulations is the same as putting the truth into practice. He adheres to all the regulations that he should adhere to and he thinks that this is putting the truth into practice and that this is what it means to obtain the truth. It’s preposterous to think so. This person cannot understand spiritual matters. Therefore, the people who like to talk about letters and doctrines, when they preach, communicate and contact people, they always use regulations to restrict people and want people to adhere to this regulation and that regulation. Is this person capable of bringing people into the reality of the truth? He is unable to bring people into the reality of God’s words and he is unable to lead people to understand the truth. All he can do is lead people to adhere to the regulations. Isn’t the work that this person does resisting God? Isn’t he harming people? He does not bring any benefit to anybody and he is unable to help people understand the truth. All he can do is make people adhere to regulations. Doesn’t he lead people to stray from God’s words? Doesn’t he lead them into letters and doctrines? The work that this person does resists God. He does not bring people before God. Instead, he brings them before himself and they all simply imitate him as he talks about letters and doctrines and adheres to the regulations. The result is that he resists God and the people that he leads resist God along with him. They condemn other people in the same manner in which he condemns them. How is this different from the situation in the religious places? Don’t religious priests lead people in this way? They speak of letters and doctrines and always use regulations to restrain people. They think that someone is putting the truth into practice when they are just adhering to regulations. The result is that there are more and more regulations. This just fatigues people and in the end, they do not obtain freedom nor do they see any substantial change of life disposition in themselves. All they feel is that it gets more and more tiring to believe in God. Each regulation is like a rope that binds people tighter and tighter until they suffocate. Isn’t this trapping people? Presently, is what you communicate and preach about to people the essence of the truth or regulations? Are you able to discern this? If you can, that is good. Gradually, you will be able to lead people and do some practical work.
