The LORD is near to them that are of a broken heart; and saves such as be of a contrite spirit.
– Psalm 34:18
Thoughts on Today’s Verse…
Jehovah is near to them that are of a broken heart; and saves such as be of a contrite spirit” (Psalm 34:18). From this verse we can see God’s love and salvation. Only God is near to them that are of a broken heart and gives them comfort and encouragement. Now many people are worried and sad about family trifles, work pressures, broken emotions, and the complicate relationships between relatives and friends. Helplessly they live in the world. Many times they sigh with emotions from their hearts: “Why do we live? And why do we have to die?” Many times they shout within when they reach the end of their life, “Oh, Heavens, what should I do?” They are so helpless yet expect to know the answer. … Honestly, I was like them before. After experiencing ups and downs, I didn’t know the value and significance of man’s life, and didn’t know what I need to pursue. When I struggled hard to make my family happy, I always encountered dissatisfied things: My parents were sick in hospital, and my work didn’t go smoothly. Under pressure from many aspects, I felt as if there were a big stone on my back. I hoped desperately that someone could give me faith and strength. When I was in pain and helpless, I saw a passage of words: “The Almighty has mercy on these people who suffer deeply. At the same time, He is fed up with these people who have no consciousness, because He has to wait too long for the answer from humans. He desires to seek, seek your heart and your spirit. He wants to bring you food and water and to awaken you, so you are no longer thirsty, no longer hungry. When you are weary and when you begin to feel the desolation of this world, do not be perplexed, do not cry. Almighty God, the Watcher, will embrace your arrival any time.” These motherly words comfort our hearts. Only God knows what we need, and only God can supply us with life.
